It was a night to remember and to reflect back on legendary DJ Bruce Morrow’s six decade career.
WABC Radio and its owners, John and Margo Catsimatidis, honored iconic radio personality Bruce Morrow, known as Cousin Brucie, for his six-decade-long career at a star studded gala in New York City.
NYC VIBE was invited by Chad Lopez to witness the glory, excitement and celebrations that took place. Cousin Brucie first joined WABC in 1961, and one of Catsimatidis’ first actions after acquiring the historic radio station in March 2020 was to bring him back to the airwaves. The veteran radio host returned that September to host the Saturday Night Rock & Roll Party.
Over the years, he has been inducted into several halls of fame and received multiple awards for his contributions to the radio industry. His influence extends beyond radio; he’s appeared in films, Broadway shows, and television, and has been active in philanthropic work and writing many books.
Cousin Brucie has been in the radio game since way back in 1961. That’s the time when rock and roll music started taking off, and a few years before the British Invasion brought us iconic bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks.
Cousin Brucie is credited with connecting fans to this new music and the bands that were rocking it.
Bruce joined Ed Sullivan to introduce The Beatles at that famous Shea Stadium concert on August 15, 1965 which became a legendary moment in rock history……
Cousin Brucie has been recognized for his incredible contributions to the radio world.
He was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame back in 1988, and then again into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2001.
He received the Bravery in Radio Award from William Paterson University for his inspirational programming and lifelong commitment to radio.
That is in addition to an honorary doctorate from Montclair State University and having a midtown Manhattan street named after him…
Cousin Brucie – made it clear on stage accepting awards – he is just beginning….
