Met Gala 2023: Bringing Karl Lagerfeld’s Vision Back to Life

Monday, May 1, 2023 – Upper East Side, NYC:

It was simply a European night of fashion at the annual Met Gala, which celebrated the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibit “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”

Modern-day icons including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, and Penelope Cruz dressed to honor the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who spent nearly 40 years as the creative director at Chanel and also designed for Chloé, Fendi, Balmain, Jean Patou, and his own line.

The world was reminded that Lagerfeld was a fashion industry king in every sense of the word with the celebrities, models and designers praising his vision, critics remembering his sharp tongue, which was at times amusing while most other times damaging and hurtful.

NYC VIBE was again right in the middle of the action to capture this celebration of the past, and to reflect on Lagerfeld’s unique style that has left an impact on the fashion industry for decades.

His signature white hair and suit, his affinity for the 18th century, and even his famous cat, Choupette, inspired fabulous look after fabulous look, many of which felt timeless.

It would have been interesting to know how Lagerfeld would’ve felt about the exhibition being dedicated to him as his close friends told us that he would always look toward the future, even when surrounding himself with Baroque ornamentation and Louis XIV look on the walls – “Anything dusty, dirty, musty – forget about it here,” Lagerfeld once told Vogue magazine “I like my 18th century fresh.”

And so he did!
