#theatrekid#musicaltheatre#broadwayMonday night, October 30, 2023 – Midtown, Manhattan: In addition to an evening of performances honoring trailblazing leaders in Black theatre who are inspiring the next generation of Black theatre professionals, the organization emphasizes four goals; awareness, accountability, advocacy, and action. Black Theater United works at the community and national levels to elevate anti-racist cause and support the Black community through various resources and initiatives. Comprised of performers, writers, directors, stage managers, and more, Black Theatre United was founded to build pathways of access and opportunities for Black and other students and industry professionals who have been historically marginalized in the theatre community. Proceeds from the gala will support empowering programs in Mentorships, Student Internships, BTU’s Annual Advocacy Summit and BTU’s Education program. Black Theatre United is dedicated to educating, empowering, and inspiring justice and equality for Black actors and actresses within the theatrical community. They are working to preserve the history and legacy of Black theatre through activism and storytelling. BFG is showing their support by sponsoring BTU’s inaugural gala. The theatre community has been historically neglectful of Black voices and performers.
