June 2024 – Tribeca NYC: To close out the 2024 Tribeca festival and to honor Robert De Niro celebrating his 80th birthday, the festival created a friendly competition, local NYC sandwich shops battled it out to prove once and for all who makes the best De Niro Hero.
NYC VIBE was invited not only to cover this delicacy happening but also allowed inside the judges room as they took their roles very seriously.
One judge in particular stood out – Nancy Bader – the founder and CEO of the Bader Media Group, the producers of NYC VIBE and the weekly segments on the All Arts Channel.
The guests on the rooftop of Spring Studios tasted bite-sized portions of each sandwich in competition and then voted on their favorite!
Every bodega and sandwich shop in the Tri-State Area has their own take on the “De Niro”, an Italian-American sandwich menu staple. At this tasting event, local sandwich shops served up bites of their “De Niro” to compete for the official title of Best De Niro Hero.
The panel of prestigious and well traveled judges awarded the Best De Niro Hero winner with official laurels and an additional Fan Favorite was selected by attendees.
The winner – Pisillo Italian Panini from New York City – Congratulations to everyone that participated and also wished Robert De Niro a very happy birthday while enjoying the festival.
